Size, movement, strap and budget. How to buy a mechanical watch you will still love in ten years.

Your first automatic watch is a different kind of purchase. It does not need charging, it is not a gadget, and with care it will run for the rest of your life. Here is how we help clients choose.
Start with the wrist, not the brand
Measure your wrist with a strip of paper. Under 16.5 cm, most people are happiest between 36 and 39 mm. From 16.5 to 18.5 cm, 39 to 41 mm. Above that, 42 mm and up. Lug-to-lug length matters as much as diameter: if the lugs overhang your wrist, the watch is too big.
Decide what it is for
- One watch for everything: a steel sports watch on a bracelet, such as the Tissot PRX or a Submariner.
- Weddings, office and dinners: a slim dress watch on leather, such as the Le Locle.
- A collector's first chronograph: the Carrera or the PRX Chronograph.
Power reserve and accuracy
A longer power reserve means you can take the watch off for a weekend and it will still be running on Monday. Tissot's Powermatic 80 offers 80 hours; Rolex's 3235 offers 70. Chronometer certification tells you the movement has been tested for accuracy.
Buy the one you keep looking at. That is usually the right one.
Budget honestly
With 0% installments over 3, 6 or 12 months on select bank cards, a Rs 235,000 watch is Rs 19,584 a month over a year. Set a ceiling you are comfortable with and let us show you the best of what sits under it.
